Disability Evangelism

LiShawn was sitting in her home when she received a knock at the door. A young man introduced himself and asked if she wanted bible studies. She agreed and they developed a relationship. A couple of weeks later, he told her about an exciting revival coming to town and asked if she wanted to attend. She wanted to – but how would she get there? You see, she had been in a terrible accident and as a result was a paraplegic. The young man convinced her he would find transportation for her to attend. When “Orangeburg on Fire” began, LiShawn was sitting in the audience. Several days later, when the pastor made the call to join, she went up front. That Sabbath she and her son were baptized in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Today, she is an active member of the church and serves as the church Disabilities Ministries Coordinator.

Let us, like the servant compeled by his master in Luke 14, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame…and to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in, so that my (God’s) house will be full.”
