Women in Ministry
Southern Union Executive Committee’s Unanimous Action Regarding Women in Ministry
July 21, 2015
Following the 60th Session of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and the significant discussion surrounding women in ministry in the world church, the Southern Union President’s Council recommends the following statement:
Whereas the Southern Union and its eight constituent conferences and other institutions enjoy the rich tradition of intentionally upholding, inviting, and enabling women in every dimension of pastoral, educational, and evangelistic ministry, as well as conference and union leadership, and
Whereas the Southern Union sustains its partnership as a key segment of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, it is therefore resolved:
In harmony with the Bible teaching of the priesthood of all believers, the Southern Union Conference is committed to its sustained support of enjoining women in pastoral (including lead pastor), evangelistic, administrative, and all ministry categories through encouraging, empowering, and celebrating their gifted leadership. However, we will continue to do so only in coordination with the world church of Seventh-day Adventists, as expressed by the actions taken by the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists in business session.
