Native American Ministries

The Southern Union takes seriously the charge to take the Good News to every corner of the earth. Recognizing that the Native People of North America have not always been afforded this opportunity, the Union has commited to deliver the gospel of Jesus Christ, and be a "repairer of the breach, the restorer of paths to dwell in," to the Native People of the Southern Union.

The Native ministries program began in February of 2000, with the decision to develop a program to reach the 51 Indian tribes within this territory. To date, contact has been made and work established with eight tribes, primarily through medical and youth programs.

Health seminars such as Eight Weeks to Wellness have appealed to this population group, and our youth camps have been used to conduct Diabetes Awareness camps. At these camps, Native American children who suffer from juvenile diabetes come together to participate in all the usual summer camp fun, plus learn about how to live healthier lives.
