Social studies is an intrinsic part of Adventist education and serves to amplify and enrich the curriculum through presenting an awareness of God’s hand in the affairs of men and of man’s obligation to serve others. Based on market research and feedback from teachers, the McGraw-Hill Networks social studies program discovered that elementary teachers want a streamlined, standards-based program that is easy-to-use. They are also looking for an interactive, engaging, student-friendly program. Research also shows teachers prefer a "one-stop shop," with the activities currently found in common ancillaries integrated into the student and teacher editions.

The following three charts identify the Social Studies texts that teachers will need to purchase for single, combo, or multi-grade classrooms. Click here to order:

Social Studies Textbooks for single grade
Social Studies Textbooks for Combo Grades

Social Studies Management and Resource Tool (SoSmart) for Multi-grade Classrooms
Social Studies Textbooks for Multi-grades SoSMART Cycles

The SoSmart manual is designed to assist the multi-grade teacher in planning and teaching social studies. Four cycles for both lower and upper grades incorporate the North American Division Social Studies Standards and content from the approved social studies textbooks. By following the approved cycles, the multi-grade teacher will be able to assure all social studies standards are introduced over the four years while teaching the same topics/standards across four levels (grades).
